I read this book in tears. The stories in this book might be a bit unusual and dramatic, but they do reveal many sides of Chinese women, especially the sad, unheard, and suppressed sides. The generation born in China in the ‘80s, enjoying relative peace and freedom, tends to forget what the last generation experienced and suffered and why, in a way, they have become a bit emotionally numb. Reading this book helps us understand our mothers and earlier generations of Chinese women.
